MATCH REPORT: 3/7 – Ide by gum… the Gerries went and won!

Gerries verses Ide at Ide Cricket Ground on 3 July 2024

20/20

Gerries won by 45 runs

We arrived at Ide full of thoughts of low scoring pitches, will Ide exact their revenge after last seasons victory and will the pub do sausage and chips.

The Gerries welcomed a new addition to the team Tom Heath and what an impact he would have…

Jonah won the toss and batted first with the in form Lightowlers and Tom Heath opening up for the Gerries. Lights showed his intention by smashing the first ball for 4 and proceeded to hammer the ball to all parts especially back over the keepers head! He was the first to retire after just 4 overs with a magnificent 27.

Heath carried on Lights great work and played some lovely cricket shots until he too retired on 26. He was ably supported by the Earl with some lusty blows on his way to 18.

In typical Gerries fashion there was a middle order wobble as the bowling tightened up with Dyer, Jones and Boughton all going cheaply.

This brought J.P and Gilo to the crease and they showed no mercy by launching into the Ide attack this included a lovely reverse sweep for 4 from JP. Gilo retired on 25 leaving JP to hit the last ball for 6 leaving him on 29 and an over par score for Ide of 144.

The Ide support were quieter than normal and even Bye looked shellshocked by what he’d seen. The Gerries taking Smudgeball to a whole new level.

Could the Gerries hold their nerve and bowl nice and tightly?

The evergreen Clewlow and Giles opened up and bowled their 8 overs for just 51 with Clewlow bowling the dangerous Sharman. Lightowlers and Smudge took over and between them took 4-26 including Bye and the dangerous Ash. Jonah finished off with Boughton and Sewell who although wicketless bowled their 4 overs for just 6 runs, The Landlord’s final over was a formality as Ide looked a well beaten side on 99.

Bowling Figures:

Clewlow  1-24
Gilo 0-27
Lightowlers 2-11
Smith 2-15
Sewell 0-3
Hughes 0-12
Boughton 0-3
