MATCH REPORT: 7/7 – Not quite rolled over at the Coaver

Gerries versus the Taunton Indian Cricket Club at Coaver on 7 July 2024

35/35

Gerries lost by 28 runs

Thanks to JP we had a new fixture against the Taunton Indian Cricket Club at Coaver.

On a warm afternoon Smudge lost the toss and the Taunton batted first. Sewell and Lightowlers opening the bowling and both bowled well. Taunton were very good at anything short and wide and started quickly. JP pegged them back with 2 wickets, including a catch for Guesty.

Krish came on and took his first wickets at Coaver with his ‘darts’. We threatened to go through the opposition after a run out after a direct hit and possible champagne moment from Kyson!

However the old adage of catches win matches as we dropped the dangerous Chanou twice as he went on to score a very wristy 71. The unlucky Beano finally did get his wicket with a catch from JP.

Tight bowling from Jones and JP slowed their momentum down and with catches from Lobb and two from JP we were chasing 227 to win from our 30 overs.

Lightowlers and Guest opened up and got off to a really good start until Lights went for 12. Kyson played a lovely innings of 25 including a massive 6 but his eyes lit up once to often and was caught for 25.

Guesty carried on an played very well for his 39 until he looked to up the pace and he was caught by a very good catch. Hamish supported him well with a patient and well made 8 until he was bowled.

In came club stalwarts dare I say legends in Beano and Jonah who put on an undefeated 60 with Jonah on 33 and Beano unbeaten on 27.

We ended our innings on 198 and lost by 28 runs. Interesting that we dropped 3 catches and they took all of theirs.

Fine margins but a game played in a great spirit and thorough enjoyable… Thanks for the fixture, and we look forward to a return leg next season!!

Would the Lympstone game be just as fun…?
