Nomansland CC v Coaver Gerries, at Nomansland. 18 July 2025
20/20 CRS 30
Gerries 110/5 and Nomansland 96/all out. Gerries won by 14 runs
(ED: the figures… not the result.. may need a check!!)
With both the Gerries and the Nomansland coming up with players short it was set to be an interesting game right from the off. The Gerries lost the toss and the Nomans were happy to let us open up the batting.
Jonah and Guesty opened up proceedings on what was an incredibly slow wicket and even slower outfield. A cautious innings from Kev who was caught by a rogue short ball, where as Guest tried to Usain Bolt his away across the wicket and the ball dribbled to the infield and was left in no man’s land….with no where to run to.
Dan was chopping away getting a feel for it facing quite a few but was cut short. Beano playing some decent ground strokes until bowled for 9, then Eric came on and really gave the outfield the run around, with some lovely shots into deep cover and beyond- deservedly retired. Skipper Boughton put in a stoic middle section, also stayed to the end. With an unfortunate duck for the landlord left Dom facing the last over with AB.
Gerries finishing on a rather pedestrian 110. A low target to aim for with our biggest scorer of the evening being the ‘extras’ 14 wides and 5 no balls really helping out with the tally.
Despite the wicket being so slow it did a rather redeeming decent turning ability setting up Landlord, who drew first blood with an LBW, Ian similarly setting up a catch off and sending his team mate packing for fifteen too .
Beano bowling the hosts out first ball was impressive enough and then did it again later on in the innings- but didn’t stop there and set up a catch square on, ending with figures of 4-29!. Dom got a catch from some expert wicket keeping and AB showing us how to lead from front with 2 wickets right at the end when they only had 14 to win with plenty of overs spare.
A Special mention to Eric who I thought (along with AB and Beano) was a worthy contender for man of the match- who took a great catch sweeping and also showing us what a real throwing arm looked like.
Also I would like to thank Nomansland for putting on some decent scran, some top picky tea on offer and a nice chilled atmosphere.
Dom
(ED: big thank you Dom for doing the match report!)
P.S. Someone has the bag. UPDATE: it made its way to Ide!
